Exxon and Sabic have avoided regulations to start a massive polluting factory in the San Patricio. Now these massive corporations have the audacity to ask the city for tax rebates and handouts to start their project, with temporary jobs as their only "present" to the coastal bend. Help us raise awarenss to protest their misleading communication and exploitative practices.

🚫Say NO to the ethylne cracker plant!🚫

Gulf Coast Growth Ventures is two major conglomerates forcing a massive factory into our coastal community. Their statements about growth and community development mislead about jobs, environmental impact, and health impacts. Read on to find out more about the project.

Environmental Impact

"The massive ethylene cracker facility planned for San Patricio County is expected to emit 2.98 million tons of Greenhouse gas each year. ... According to the application, the facility also is projected to emit 917.79 tons annually of what are deemed "volatile organic compounds." - The Corpus Christi Caller Times

The ethylene cracker plant will be within 5 miles of the GPISD High School, where youth are at the most risk of the dangers of toxic gases.

Jobs & Economy

Exxon claims their plant will create 6000 jobs, but only during peak construction times. Gregory-Portland is ill equipped to handle that density of people and development, and in the end there will only be 600 permanent positions, many of which may be filled by imported workers. This is not large job development, and it places unnecessary stress of the areas infrastructure for little financial gain.

To top it off, Exxon and Sabic refuse to build with the prescribed industrial corridor, and instead are asking our school district and city council for tax discounts, based on the idea their presence will help in the long run. Their presence, however, is just to expolit this area for money and resources, piling onto their own.
