Doom Patrol

The Doom Patrol are a superhero team wihtin the DC comics universe. Orginally created by A. Drake in the 1960s, the team was a band of misfit, disfigured heros with powers gained by tragic accidents. Brought together by enigmatic scientist/entreprenuer Chief Niles Caulder, these individuals with their lives ripped away found new family in each other, fighting wild and crazy villains that may have been to odd or under-the-radar for other DC superheros to take on. While some members of the team left or died at the end of Drake's run, writer Grant Morrison revitalized the team with new characters at the end of the 80s, using the comic books as far out explorations of self-identity. Gerard Way revitalized the series once again last year and is picking up characters and themes where Morrison left off.

I love this comic book because of how unique and fun to read it is. The writers always push to introduce new ideas with new zany ways of telling them so. It can often be difficult to keep up with the ideas presented, but doing so is an incredibly fun set of mental acrobatics. There's genuine heart and creativity in the stories, and I always feel accomplished when reading.
