Introduce Yourself

Hi, I'm Julian Janssen.

Me playing guitar

I'm passionate about marketing, music, and media studies.

I would love to find a job in digital marketing.

I was born and raised in South Texas, and lived there until I came up here to Richardson for college. I study Emerging Media and Communications, as well as a minor in marketing. In my free time I enjoy writing music and jamming it out with my friends, as well as reading comic books and watching movies.

Here is some of my band's music if you would like to take a listen:

3 things I learned about browsers and the web:

The doctype function was designed to allow viewing of webpages built for outdated standards to be viewed properly. Its function allowed webpages to denotate what set of standards they were built to so the browser could display them appropriately. HTML 5 only requires the basic "html" doctype.

The new semantic elements of HTML 5 serve to allow for better organization of a webpage. In HTML4 the heading tags (h1, h2, h3, etc.) were the only organizational functions. HTML allows for further orgnaization with tags like nav, header, footer, and hgroup, which also allows websites to be more accessible to those that may need assistance navigating and reading websites.

An area of web development I am interested in is Web Content Strategist. This area development ties strongly to my studies in Emerging Media and Communication, as well as Marketing, particularly in branding web content to meet company goals. The main function of the job is planning web content and design to best reflect the company's goals, and in turn curate a user experience that best allows the consumer to connect with the company in the appropriate ways.

An interesting person I found within this field is Kristina Halvorson. She is the CEO and founder of Brain Traffic, a consulting business. Her work tries to push content strategy to the forefront of any given company's mind, since she believes it is essential to defining yourself in the modern digital world. I would like to be able to provide a similar service to potential employers or clients in my future.
